From a very early age I was involved with music. I began piano lessons at the age of six. At 14, when adolescence began to change the voice, I realized that I could also sing. I grew up listening to all of the older artists such as Willie Nelson, Patsy Cline, Bette Midler, Carole King, Barry Manilow, John Denver, Anne Murray, Barbara Streisand, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, The Beatles, The Beach Boys, The Carpenters, The Eagles, Kenny Rodgers, Dolly Parton, and the like. It's the music of my parents and grandparents, but to me it had so much meaning and musicality. It dawned on me, why not combine vocals and piano and sing those songs to those generations. That is the music they grew up with and it's probably been a long time since they heard those songs sung live.
For me, half of music is notes, but the other half is lyrics. Lyrics are just as meaningful and important as the melody. Music aims to speak a message and the message is delivered and imparted via the lyrics. These songs of the 40s, 50s, 60s, and 70s had such thoughtful lyrics written in to them and spoke beautiful messages to the listener.
My goal is not to just play or sing pretty music. Many musicians and singers can do just that. My goal is to connect with seniors, bringing them back to that time in their youthful lives when they danced, went to prom, kissed their boyfriend or girlfriend, etc. While their bodies might not be up for the challenge, their hearts and minds sure are, and I aim to rekindle that spark that once was, the memories of yesteryear.
I know many of the songs from this era and these decades, but there are many with which I'm not familiar. If you have suggestions or requests, I not only welcome them, but actively encourage you to send them through private message via the site. I'll listen to them, find the sheet music, and do my best to learn and perform them for you next time I'm at your facility or private function.
We love our seniors, so feel free to drop me a line with any questions, comments (both complimentary and constructive), song requests, or if you would like to book me to perform at your facility, via the contact form above.
